German scientist Ernst Chladni (1756-1827) was a pioneer of experimental acoustics. One of his inventions was a technique to study the motions of vibrating metal plates. In this exploration of 'Cymatics', the science of visualising audio frequencies, Bright Side Studios will reveal the visual patterns of audio by experimenting with a Chlandi Plate.

Ancient folklore around the world infer that everything has a spirit or essence. The Romans named the protective spirit of a place, Genus Loci. In Scotland many bodies of water were worshipped as deities. In Aberdeen, the River Dee's name was derived from the word ‘deva’, meaning goddess but what spirits lie beneath the surface of our waters now?

It wouldn't be midsummer without a ravishing country house affair to enjoy at Lauriston Castle, and this year we're delighted to return to the work of Merchant-Ivory with their 1992 adaptation of E.M.Forster's 1910 novel 'Howards End', a romantic drama of class distinctions in Edwardian Britain.

The distinguished cast playing the three intertwined families includes Emma Thompson, in her first Oscar-winning performance alongside Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave and Helena Bonham Carter. A complimentary glass of champagne will be served on the terrace before.
