By merging together still and moving imagery taken from the classic era of film-making, the work of Jason Dee attempts to reintroduce a sense of the uncanny first felt at the point when cinema began to animate photography over 100 years ago. Characters in these digital works are frozen on a single frame, or their looped actions seem directly tied into film's mechanical motion. They seem to occupy a limbo world somewhere between a recorded past and viewed present.
Jason will present a selection of recent work, including that made on a recent new media residency in New York and from recent exhibitions in Berlin, Paris, London, Newcastle and Stockholm. He is also currently undertaking a Scottish Arts Council funded new media residency at the University of Abertay.
