New Media Scotland is delighted to announce the next Upgrade! Scotland featuring: Brass Art.
Chara Lewis, Kirstin Mojsiewicz and Anneké Pettican have been collaborating since 1999. Brass Art explore real and virtual space by positioning themselves in their work as drawings, shadows and carved or 3D models. Combining a fascination for pre-cinematic optical illusions with cutting edge 21 st Century technologies. Central to their practice is an examination of the gap between public and private experience and liminal spaces (where fixed identites dissolve and new spaces for thought are opened).
In their new work the artists have used the latest body scanning and 3D printing technology to produce miniature replicas of themselves. These will morph with objects and become animated by a travelling light source, creating a large moving shadow play. Taking the form of a surreal procession, the repeated forms of the artists will enter into a ‘dance macabre'.
Brass Art are interested in exploring the rich potential of old and new media. Brass Art mix traditional and contemporary skills and have collaborated with a broad spectrum of people from confectionery craftsmen to architectural engineers, and, from jewellers to the medical division of Pentax.
