This month Upgrade! Scotland is provoking a debate. Our two speakers, Doug Pritchard and Bob Hamilton will make short presentations about their projects which represent Glasgow in two radically different ways.
We will then turn the event over to you to ask what is the impact of these projects: What affect does it have on the city and our lives within it? Do these virtual spaces create or represent the city?
Doug Pritchard led production of The Glasgow Urban Model. Doug and his team literally scanned buildings to create a 3D model of the city centre that we can fly around from the comfort of our computers. Commissioned by Glasgow City Council as an aid to the re-development of the city, the model creates an incredibly accurate vision of the city in which development proposals can be tested and could offer greater participation in the development process.
The social treasure trove www.citystrolls.com is run by Bob Hamilton. Citystrolls is a web forum concerned with the direction of public and social responsibility in Glasgow and seeks to look at "the city as a whole, old and new, trendy and poor, politically and aesthetically ". Bob is currently working with a team to create an interactive portal seeking highlight the connections between groups, campaigns and activities.
You can view the Citystrolls website here and the Glasgow Urban Model site here here
