Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017 presents an 80th anniversary screening of Michael Powell’s first major feature, presented on Edinburgh’s remarkable FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility wave tank.

During this Atmosphere screening, 2.4 million litres of water will be manipulated to mimic the cinematic seascapes depicted in this tale of evacuation of a remote island community off the Scottish coast inspired by St. Kilda.

Also screening is Oliver Pike’s short documentary ‘St. Kilda, Its People and Birds’ from 1908, with a new score and lighting by Alex Menzies and Florence To, Music Fellows at Edinburgh's Department of Clinical Neuroscience.

An Indy Cinema Group, New Media Scotland and University of Edinburgh production. Part of the British Film Institute’s Britain on Film season, supported by Unlocking Film Heritage awarding funds from The National Lottery.

The National Trust for Scotland will host a drinks reception from 7-8pm to celebrate 60 years of caring for St Kilda. Scotland’s largest conservation charity will share their insights in a special introduction ahead of both screenings.
