Atmosphere | Brigadoon

Brigadoon

11th & 12th October 2019. RSVP
Inspace, 1 Crichton Street, Edinburgh EH8 9AB

As part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK wide celebration of movie musicals, we're returning our Atmosphere screening programme to its birthplace, Inspace, for the first time in six years. Back in 2013, on the invitation of the Year of Natural Scotland, we first screened Brigadoon and it became our most fabled Atmosphere.

Shot entirely on a sound stage in Hollywood after director Vincente Minnelli found Scotland wasn't Scottish enough. Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse star in this 1954 MGM musical. Guest augmentoligists returning include Pyrus Botanicals. Anything is possible... even miracles. The mists will once again clear, to reveal the mythical village.

Atmosphere

11th & 12th October 2019. £10
Lauriston Castle, 2 Cramond Rd S, Edinburgh EH4 6AD

Atmosphere is our most popular research programme. First premiered at the 2010 Edinburgh International Film Festival, it re-imagines the concept of Atmospheric movie theaters from the 1920s and 30s.

Each expanded screening uses a team of guest artists and creatives to work with technology old and new, multi-sensory interactives and live elements too. Expect some smoke and mirrors, before the bells and whistles.

Director Robert Altman brought together a fine ensemble cast for this 2001 production. Written by Julian Fellows, it's a study of the British class system in the 1930s, all wrapped up in a murder mystery worthy of Agatha Christie herself.
