Atmosphere

Brigadoon

Friday 10th November 2017, 9pm. RSVP
Mecca Dundee Playhouse, 104-110 Nethergate DD1 4EH

Atmosphere is our most popular research programme. First premiered at the 2010 Edinburgh International Film Festival, it re-imagines the concept of Atmospheric movie theaters from the 1920s and 30s.

Each expanded screening uses a team of guest artists and creatives to work with technology old and new, multi-sensory interactives and live elements too. Expect some smoke and mirrors, before the bells and whistles.

Carry on Screaming (1966)

Tuesday 31st October 2017, 7:30 for 8pm. £10
Lauriston Castle, 2 Cramond Rd S, Edinburgh EH4 6AD

This Hallowe'en Dr. Orlando Watt and his sister Valeria invite you to join them at Bide-A-Wee Rest Home for a very special Atmosphere screening of the Carry On classic from 1966. A parody of the Hammer Horror movies, the film stars Harry H. Corbett, Kenneth Williams and Fenella Fielding.

With a spate of kidnappings in Hocombe Woods, local Detective-Sergeant Bung is on the case, but clearly doesn't have a clue. Have no fear however, as none of the horror greats from Frankenstein to The Mummy, Dr Jekyl to Mr Hyde escape the digs at Lauriston Castle. "Frying tonight!"

Atmosphere | A Zed & Two Noughts

A Zed & Two Noughts

Thursday 30th November 2017, 7:30 for 8pm. £10
Alt-w LAB, City Art Centre, 2 Market Street, Edinburgh

Peter Greenaway's visually stunning 1985 film was the first with his "most important collaborator" cinematographer Sacha Vierny. A story of twin zoologists Oswald and Oliver Deuce who, after losing their wives in a freak car collision with a swan outside the zoo where they work, develop a curious attachment to the car's driver Alba, who survived.

Developed in collaboration with DCN Design Fellow Susana Cámara Leret, this is our first Atmosphere event in the Alt-w LAB. Punctuated by the dulcet tones of Sir David Attenborough and the influence of Johannes Vermeer, the film is a rumination on life, love and sex and the inevitability of birth, death and decay.
