nickybird.com

Nicky Bird investigates the contemporary relevance of found photographs, and the hidden histories of specific sites, investigating how they remain resonant. She incorporates new photography with oral histories and genealogy by collaborating with people who have a significant connection to the site, archive or artefact.

Heritage Site is an art and archaeology project working with the Five Sisters shale bings in West Calder and a house that is buried beneath. It brings together artists, heritage visualisation archaeologists and local community members to create new ways of imaging what lies underground in both practical and metaphorical senses.

St. Mary's Cathedral, Palmerston Pl., Edinburgh EH12 5AW

This sound art and music project is taking place in some of Scotland’s most interesting acoustic spaces. The concept is to compose, perform and record compositions specifically for a series of particularly reverberant locations using impulse response digital audio technology.

Resono will be performed inside Cupar's massive fifty eight metre high concrete silo, built in 1964 by the British Sugar Corporation, and in the nave of the Sir George Gilbert Scott designed St. Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh of 1879. Both exceptional spaces for sonic experimentation.

"It was one of the most unique and awe inspiring experiences I have ever had. It was like existing inside a musical thunderstorm."

"A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then that it is the year 10,191. The Known Universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, my father. In this time, the most precious substance in the universe is the spice Melange."

The spice enables travel to any part of the universe without moving, by folding space. Join a star studded cast on a journey helmed by messianic Kyle MacLachlan to control the desert planet of Arrakis, the source of the spice.

At the Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival, Matt Collings and Sean Williams will present their new 7.1 electronic sound mix of David Lynch’s film adaptation. The original sci-fi novel is the world's best-selling, ever.

However, a case of life imitating art unfolds in this terrifying take on the Englishman abroad drama. Guest foley artists will work on live analogue special effects throughout the screening, bringing the mechanics behind the film firmly into view with a virtuoso slice and dice.
